Accessibility

The conference is held in two conference rooms at Rutgers’ Archibald S. Alexander Library, located on the College Avenue Campus at Rutgers New Brunswick (169 College Ave, New Brunswick, NJ 08901). The conference is wheelchair accessible and participants have been requested to arrive fragrance-free. Gluten-free (cross-contamination possible) and vegetarian and vegan breakfast and lunch options will be available. Foods with nuts will be labelled. To request interpretation, please contact us as soon as possible.

Presentation Accessibility

All paper presentations will be available as printed copies in 12-point and 18-point font at the beginning of each panel. Presenters will be requested to provide verbal descriptions any presentation images.

Fragrance-free policy

In keeping with this conference’s focus on bodies and with accepted standards for accessibility, the conference organizers have implemented a fragrance-free policy. All conference attendees are asked to, in advance of their attendance, ensure that their person and clothing has not been exposed to chemicals or fragrances. This is for the health, safety, and accessibility of all attendees. Some items you may encounter frequently that are often fragranced include perfume/cologne, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, smoke, essential oils. Please consult this guide and its links for more details.

We do not have information about the cleaning supplies or schedule used in conference spaces, and students using other parts of the library may be using fragrances.

Getting Here

If driving, visitors may park in Lots 26, 30 & College Avenue Deck without permits. Special event parking and special event permits are only for visitors to the University,  which does not include free metered parking. Faculty, Staff, and Students must park only in lots they are authorized to park in. All lots have accessible parking spaces, but numbers are limited.

Alexander Library’s front entrance is accessible, the library is up a smoothly paved wide ramp, and both entrance and exit have automatic doors. Each floor of the library has gendered multi-stall bathrooms that include accessible stalls.

New Brunswick has a New Jersey transit station 0.7 miles from the library.

Conference Venue

The conference will be held in the Pane room and the Teleconference/Lecture Hall Room 403. The Pane room is on the first floor of Alexander Library. The Pane room is flat and has moveable chairs. The Teleconference Center on the fourth floor of Alexander library and is accessible via two elevators if you turn left from the entrance. This room is an amphitheatre style, with accessible seating from the front, lower entrance. Accessible seating can also be found via a ramp to the back of the stepped seating located on the outside of the room.

Conference breaks and meals will be held in the open area outside of the fourth floor Teleconference room.

Gender neutral bathrooms will be available during the conference on the fourth floor of the Alexander library.

Signs will be posted to direct you. Library staff at the welcome desk (directly in front of the entrance) or staff at the circulation desk (to the left of the welcome desk) can also help direct you.
